SUMMARY:Webinar: Particle Engineering using Spray Drying and Fluid Beds
DESCRIPTION:This webinar has taken place. To view the recording please go here. \nFormulators are often challenged to produce solid particulate products with precisely designed application properties. For instance granular products may need to flow easily and disperse quickly in water but must still be strong enough not to break down to a powder during storage or transport. At other times\, particles with distinct internal structure are needed in order to encapsulate and delay the release of an active ingredient. \nUsing spray drying or fluid bed technologies are two popular ways of carrying out particle engineering in order to give us the solid product that we want. In our webinar we provide a brief overview of how these methods work and how they compare when you are looking to design the structure of your particles. \nIn the webinar\, are joined once again by Professor David York of the University of Leeds and by iFormulate’s Dr Jim Bullock. \nFor those of you who’d appreciate a more in-depth introduction into spray drying then take a look at these this course delivered by the University of Leeds and supported by iFormulate: \n\nSpray Drying and Atomisation of Formulations – 2023\n\n

SUMMARY:From Science to Shelf - Innovating Through Formulation
DESCRIPTION:21-22 Jan 2020\, SCI Formulation Forum\, London. \n  \nThis event has taken place. \nDetails here . \nHow can we successfully commercialise our formulation innovations? The innovative application of formulation science in industry has huge potential to create great commercial value and significant benefits for society. But how can a start-up fast track its product development process? How should different organisations partner-up? What must employees\, academics or aspiring entrepreneurial students consider to commercially exploit their inventions? How can large companies innovate against ‘big company inertia’? \nThis is the third two-day workshop organised by SCI’s Formulation Forum and it follows the highly successful ‘Disruptive Innovations’ workshop in January 2019. In that workshop\, we discussed the future of formulation science and how it meets future challenges today. In this workshop\, we will discuss and showcase how today’s ideas can become a commercial reality. Why? Innovation is critical due to rapidly increasing competition in a shrinking world\, constant commoditization and a drive for shorter product lifecycles to deliver faster growth. Companies are engaged in blocking and leap-frogging the competition\, reducing their supplier’s power and reducing the chance of competitor substitutes. \nInternal processes to structure innovation are as important as external services and cooperation. Industry has adopted new innovation models and moved on from the old ivory tower model of R&D to modern debate on exploration versus exploitation\, buying in\, repurposing for new markets or engaging in co-operative projects. \nJoin us in January to partake in thoughtful discussions on how to successfully realise formulation innovations and connect with formulations experts with similar ideas and interests. \n\nATTENDEES\nSCI’s Formulation Forum events are equally open to major companies\, SME’s\, academics and students from all areas\, including scientists\, engineers\, patent attorneys\, marketing experts and business managers with an interest in formulation innovation and science. This event is especially suited to those in academia and industry that are looking to improve their current innovation practices or entrepreneurs and future research employees looking for advice and support.

SUMMARY:Biopesticide Summit 2019
DESCRIPTION:The world of plant protection is changing rapidly with many interesting new approaches entering the market. For this reason Bionema Limited and Swansea University are to host the inaugural Biopesticide Summit in July 2019. The organisers expect to address the pressing need to develop alternatives to chemical crop protection.\nThe Summit will also include the Biopesticide Awards which celebrate the achievement\, excellence\, and the contribution industry and research communities make to the biocontrol community. \nThe Biopesticide Summit 2019 will focus on developing and introducing innovative and alternative biocontrol solutions that will help protect our food chain in a controlled but timely manner. \nThe global biopesticides market is growing rapidly. It was worth approximately $3.36 billion in 2016 and is projected to reach $8.82 billion by 2022. However\, despite significant growth in the biocontrol industry\, major limitations with current biopesticide solutions are rarely discussed. There is an urgent need to develop novel products and application technologies to not only “fill the gaps” in the market due to pesticide removal but also to anticipate future requirements as pests and diseases are developing resistance to currently used chemical products.  In additional\, there is increasing consumer led retailer demand for growers to eradicate the use of chemical pesticides in crop production and to grow fruit and vegetables with reduced detectable residues. \nOne challenge particularly dear to our hearts at iFormulate is that of formulating biopesticides effectively. At the Summit\, iFormulate’s Dr David Calvert will discuss the increasing need to improve biopesticide performance through formulation science and technology. Formulation can bring benefits in terms of delivery mechanism\, release profile and stability amongst other key properties. In his presentation\, David will discuss will review the differences between biopesticides and conventional pesticide active ingredients and outline how these can lead to differing formulation strategies. He will also outline how formulation technology can be used to resolve some of the stability issues concerning the common microbial biopesticide\, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) \nYou can find registration and other details on the Biopesticide Summit here. \n

The course takes place on 3rd-4th December 2019 and more details including registration options can be found here.
